WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling spurs collagen development in the dermis layer of the skin through the use of micro-needles that cause skin trauma which is healed by the growth of new collagen. While this procedure has been around since 1995, it’s become trendy in the last few years because of its use in hair restoration and its effectiveness in treatment of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. Available in Calgary at Xthetics Face & Body Sculpt, the tiny needles make micro-injuries in the dermis and induce collagen growth with minimal pain.

What Are The Benefits Of Microneedling?

Rejuvenating thin, wrinkled, and scarred skin is one of the best applications of microneedling. In addition, microneedling can treat hyperpigmentation. While a facial is a non-invasive way to treat your skin and improve skin tone, microneedling is a mildly invasive way to stimulate natural collagen growth. One of the best outcomes of microneedling seen by our Calgary patients is the reduction in pore size that comes from the procedure.

If you suffer from embarrassing acne scars, rough texture, and uneven skin tone that doesn’t seem to improve with over-the-counter products, and major concerns are loose, crepey skin or stubborn fine lines and wrinkles, our Calgary office’s microneedling procedure may just be the solution for you. Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment and can be used on the face, neck, chest, and other areas of the body to reduce wrinkles and stretch marks, improve circulation, and lift and enhance skin texture.

Defy the Signs of Aging

Am I A Good Candidate For Microneedling?

If you are bothered by the effects of aging, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, large pores, or even hair loss, you will benefit from microneedling. Those with ongoing skin conditions or bleeding disorders should consult a doctor before scheduling a microneedling appointment. Those with cystic acne or wound healing issues should also not get the procedure.

One Hour to Beautiful Skin

YOUR MICRONEEDLING PROCEDURE

When you arrive at Xthetics Face and Body Sculpt for microneedling Calgary patients will have their face cleansed and a numbing cream will be applied. Once this numbing cream has taken effect, it will be removed, and the microneedling procedure will begin. The microneedling device will be drawn across the skin to create microscopic punctures. The needles can penetrate more deeply on fatty parts of the skin, such as the cheeks, while they can be set to a shallower setting for skin with a thinner fat layer underneath, such as the skin of the forehead. Once the procedure is complete, your skin is cleansed, and we apply skin care to aid in healing and moisture, and you are free to go.

Minimal Downtime

MICRONEEDLING RECOVERY

There is minimal downtime or recovery time after a microneedling procedure at our Calgary Med Spa. Following microneedling patients should avoid the sun for a couple of days after treatment and avoid using makeup the first day after treatment. You will also need to adjust your skincare regimen during your recovery, avoiding irritating ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C, hydroquinone, and tretinoin. We will provide you with the right skincare to help your skin recover optimally. Your skin will be red for a few hours, and for some people, a few days, but this will diminish as the collagen in the dermis layer kicks in and begins producing a new skin layer to replace the damaged one. You should sleep on clean pillowcases the day of the procedure and avoid sleeping with pets close to your face for a few days.

Results are Gradual but Noticeable

MICRONEEDLING RESULTS

Microneedling results usually appear gradually over several weeks. While you may notice smoother skin and more even skin tone right away, the best results will occur as the dermis layer of the skin rises to the surface and replaces the damaged epidermis layer. Our microneedling patients in Calgary with fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation will notice their skin is plumper and more evenly toned. Often, multiple treatments are needed for optimal results, and these are scheduled several weeks apart.

Risks

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling devices carry the potential to cause both short-term and long-term side effects. Skin damage is a common risk associated with microneedling devices. This damage may manifest in the form of peeling, itching, tightness, redness, and bruising, but typically dissipates without treatment within a few days or weeks.

Other less frequent risks may include stinging or itching when applying cosmetics or other skincare products such as moisturizers or sunscreen, the development of dark or light spots on the skin, facial lines, flare-ups of cold sores, infection, and swollen lymph nodes.

It is important to note that microneedling may not always produce the desired aesthetic outcome, and more than one treatment may be required to achieve satisfactory results. Furthermore, any cosmetic improvements may be temporary and necessitate additional treatments in the future to maintain the desired look.
