PLATELET RICH PLASMA TREATMENT CALGARY
The Vampire Facial, otherwise known as a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) skin treatment is suitable for everyone of all ages. Whether you’re looking to reverse visible signs of aging or sun damage, or simply want a preventative solution for keeping skin youthful, PRP injections can help. At Xthetics in Calgary we love PRP injections because it allows us to use each individual patient’s own natural healing system to improve and repair the body, making it ideal for most candidates. Prescription anti-aging ointments, creams and lotions can cause nasty side effects depending on your skin type, allergies and other factors. PRP, on the other hand, uses blood from your own body, virtually eliminating the chance of an allergic reaction. Tighten your skin and diminish any fine lines, and treat wrinkles with the Vampire Facial in Calgary at Xthetics Face and Body Sculpt!

What is a Vampire Facial?
THE ANTI-AGING SOLUTION FROM WITHIN.
Available at our Med Spa in Calgary, the Vampire Facial, or PRP injection, is the use of a natural component of human blood that contains numerous growth factors. These growth factors enable the skin to actually repair itself and encourage the regeneration of soft tissues. PRP therapy for facial rejuvenation essentially utilizes the plasma from your own blood to enhance the growth of elastin and collagen, which helps the skin replenish and renew itself for a more youthful appearance and a healthier glow.
Heal Tissue and Grow New Cells
How Do Prp Injections Work?
The treatment of PRP involves a fraction of blood, collected or ‘drawn up’ from the individual patient into a syringe. The collected blood is then spun in a special centrifuge to separate its components. The platelet rich plasma is then re-injected, and/or micro-needled back into the skin. Platelets are vital in the process of tissue healing and the growth of new cells. PRP promotes collagen production, regenerates the skin tissue, and essentially re-energizes your cells into rejuvenating themselves. The release of growth factors and other anti-aging hormones, amplifies the healing process. The results – PRP softens fine lines and wrinkles, tightens the skin, and improves skin tone and texture. At Xthetics in Calgary, PRP injection facial treatments are pain-free, as we use an injection gun and not a needle (which can be painful).
Risks
What Are The Risks of PRP Injections?
Since PRP therapy uses the patient’s own blood, there is no risk of allergy or immune reaction. Side effects and complications from PRP injections are rare, but the main risks include local infection, which has a less than 1% chance of occurring, and pain at the injection site. To minimize the pain associated with injection, the area is anesthetized with a long-acting local anesthetic before PRP injection. If necessary, the referring physician may prescribe pain medication for the patient.

Most Common Questions
What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a skin rejuvenation technique that uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth. It is used for facial rejuvenation and for hair loss or thinning.
How Is PRP for Vampire Facials Injected?
This plasma is injected into your skin using an injection device. The injection device is used to penetrate the skin and introduce your own reparative cells into the dermis to induce repair. The technique of injecting PRP is virtually painless with the use of the injection device and the whole treatment takes about an hour.
Where Is PRP Used?
PRP can be used on the scalp to promote hair growth. PRP can also be safely injected into areas such as under eyes to help reduce darkness, the nasolabial folds (laugh lines) and neck area. Post-baby tummy and upper arms are another primary area.
Do Vampire Facials Hurt?
Some mild discomfort may be felt during the injection. The sensation typically felt is a pin prick and mild tingling sensation. This sensation only lasts a few minutes. We ensure our Calgary vampire facial patients are comfortable throughout the entire PRP treatment.
When Can I See my Vampire Facial Results?
Following a vampire facial Calgary patients may notice tightening and a more even skin tone within a week or two after PRP treatments, however, for best results, it is recommended that a minimum of 3 PRP treatments be performed one month apart. This creates an accumulative effect and results continue to build for up to 6-12 months after every treatment.
How Is PRP Collected And Made?
Your blood is taken and spun to separate out the red blood cells, the white blood cells, plasma, and platelets. The plasma and platelets are then separated out and that is PRP: platelet-rich plasma.

Are Vampire Facials Safe?
PRP is considered very safe, since it is your own blood, and therefore carries no allergic reaction risk. The skill of your doctor comes into play to ensure the best possible results.
How Long Does A Vampire Facial Take?
The PRP treatment takes approximately 1 hour. This depends on if the PRP is administered through injections only, and/or micro-needled into the skin.
How Long Do PRP Vampire Facial Results Last?
Results from a Vampire facial can be seen for many years after treatment. However, these results vary due to the individual’s natural quality of Platelet Rich Plasma, as well as their lifestyle. While we cannot stop the aging process, we can slow it down. Results from PRP treatments can be extended with continuous skin treatments and proper at home skincare maintenance.
Can I Use Other Treatments Like Anti-wrinkle Or Dermal Fillers With PRP?
Yes, although PRP can be very effective as a solo treatment. Each person will have their own individual needs which will be discussed with you in your consultation.
Will my insurance cover a Vampire Facial?
Eligible residents of Alberta are provided with comprehensive coverage for medically necessary physician services, as well as certain dental and oral surgical health services, through the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). Any medical services deemed non-essential, such as cosmetic procedures, including a Vampire Facial, are not covered by the AHCIP.
