Three days prior to your treatment:

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages and green tea.
  • Avoid over-the-counter medications (Tylenol is ok), herbal products, fish oil, and Vitamin E.

On the day of your appointment:

Laser Hair Removal

PRETREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Avoid sun exposure 4-6 weeks before and after treatment until your healthcare provider allows it. Epidermal melanocytes compete with melanin in the hair.
  2. Your provider may ask you to stop any topical medications or skin care products 3-5 days prior to treatment.
  3. Avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment. The melanin-containing hair must be present in the follicle as it is the "target"for the laser light.
  4. If you have had a history of perioral or genital herpes simplex virus, your provider may recommend a prophylactic antiviral therapy. Follow the directions for your particular antiviral medication.
  5. If you have a tan or have a darker Fitzpatrick Skin Type, a bleaching regimen may be started at least 2 weeks before treatment.
  6. RECENTLY TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED! If treated within 2 weeks of active (natural sunlight or tanning booth) tanning, you may develop hypopigmentation (white spots) after treatment and this may not clear for 2-3 months or more.
  7. The use of self-tanning skin products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self-tanner should be removed prior to treatment.

Sculptra

As soon as possible:

  • Please inform us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you have had dermal fillers in the treatment area, you must wait at least six months for Sculptra.

Benign Pigmented Lesion Treatment

  1. Avoid sun exposure 4-6 weeks before and after treatment until your physician allows it.
  2. Your provider may ask you to stop any topical medications or skin care products 3-5 days prior to treatment.

Vascular Lesion Treatment

  1. Your skin should be completely clean and dry prior to treatment. Remove or omit application of any skin care products on the day of treatment.
  2. AVOID THE SUN - The area to be treated should not be exposed to sun 4- 6 weeks prior to treatment. If you are in the sun during this time you should defer treatment until a later date.
  3. Treatment of tanned skin may cause blistering or possible hypopigmentation which may last for 3-6 months.
  4. Avoid using tanning creams, spray tans, or any type of temporary pigmented creams prior to treatment.
  5. Patients who have a darker Fitzpatrick Skin Type (V-VI) may have an increased risk of hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots). Consult your provider.
  6. Patients with a history of the following conditions may not be good candidates for laser treatment and should consult their primary care provider when considering treatment:
    • Diabetic patients or patients with poor circulation
    • Patients who have a history of poor healing
    • Patients who take a blood thinner, such as coumadin or aspirin
  7. Patients who are taking high doses of iron may have an increased risk of hyperpigmentation.
  8. Patients typically tolerate this procedure well.

WRINKLE REDUCTION TREATMENT

  1. Avoid sun exposure 4-6 weeks before and after treatment until your physician allows it.

  • Depending on your skin type, your provider might recommend pre-procedure skincare to minimize the risk of discoloration. If that is the case, please use the products as recommended.
  • Do not use self-tanning lotions or tanning booths.

  • Exercise treated muscles for 30 minutes after treatment to improve product absorption.
  • Avoid makeup for 4 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid exercising for the next 12 hours.
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours.
  • Avoid sleeping or lying down for 4 hours to avoid pressure on treated areas.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme heat, such as saunas and hot tubs, for 3 days.
  • For the next 24 hours, do not use retinol, hydroquinone, or skincare other than a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
  • If you notice excessive pain, swelling, tenderness, or any concerns on treatment areas, contact your cosmetic physician at 587-772-6449. After hours, please leave a voicemail, and we will call you back within 10-15 minutes.
  • Botox and Dysport usually take 3-10 days to kick in and take full effect after two weeks. The effect will last 3-4 months on average, but could last anywhere from 2-6 months.
  • Please book and attend your follow-up appointment in two weeks so we can assess your results and touch up your treatment as required.

  • If you suffer from facial cold sores, there is a risk of recurrence following cosmetic injections. Speak to your cosmetic physician about medications to minimize this issue.
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours after treatment.

  • Thoroughly massage the treated area in a circular fashion for 5 minutes, 5x/day for 5 days after each treatment, or for 25 minutes daily for 5 days. This helps to distribute Sculptra evenly and promotes a natural-looking correction.
  • Minimize exposure of the treated area to excessive sun and avoid ultraviolet lamp exposure until any initial swelling and redness have disappeared.
  • If you suffer from facial cold sores, there is a risk of recurrence following cosmetic injections. Speak to your cosmetic physician about medications to minimize this issue.

  • Gently apply ice packs or cold compresses to treated areas to reduce swelling.
  • Thoroughly massage the treated area in a circular fashion for 5 minutes, 5x/day for 5 days after each treatment. This helps to distribute Sculptra evenly and promotes a natural-looking correction. Alternatively, you can massage the area for 20 minutes twice daily for two weeks.

  • Avoid other skin treatments on the area, such as lasers and chemical peels, for two weeks.
  • Do not use body care for the next 24 hours other than a gentle body wash and moisturizer.
  • Avoid over-the-counter medications such as Aleve, Motrin, Advil, Vitamin E, and herbal supplements for one week post-treatment (Tylenol is ok).
  • For the next four weeks, do not take any vaccination.

  2. Your provider may use an optional cooling method after treatment to ensure your comfort.
  3. A topical soothing skin care product such as aloe vera gel may be applied following treatment if desired.
  4. Makeup may be used immediately after the treatment as long as the skin is not irritated.
  5. Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).
  6. Use a sunblock (SPF 30+) at all times throughout the course of treatment.
  7. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area for 6 weeks after the laser treatment is performed. Shaving only should be done between treatments.
  8. Several days to weeks after the treatment, shedding of the treated hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is NOT new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or Loofah sponge.
  9. After the axilla (underarm) is treated, you may wish to use a powder instead of a deodorant for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.
  10. There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.

Benign Pigmented Lesions

  1. The heat from the laser pulses may be slightly uncomfortable during and immediately following treatment. Cold gel packs/ice can be applied to reduce discomfort.
  2. If legs were treated: elevate your legs to decrease discomfort, especially when large areas are treated.
  3. Tylenol is recommended for any pain, as needed.
  4. AVOID THE SUN completely after treatment to reduce hyperpigmentation. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 zinc oxide or titanium dioxide with UV A/B sunblock.
  5. Check with your provider about the possibility of using a daily moisturizer.
  6. Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours after treatment. Consult your provider.
  7. Compression stockings may or may not be recommended by your provider.
  8. TEST SPOTS: Wait 8 weeks to see if the treatment was effective. Your provider will evaluate treatment response or side effects at the follow up visit.
  9. FULL TREATMENT: Wait at least 8 weeks before the next treatment as resolution of the vessels continues throughout this entire period. Your provider may have you wait even longer between treatments.
  10. Your individual vein may appear bruised or darker red following treatment. This discoloration will fade over the next few weeks. If on the legs: brown discoloration may take several months to fade.
  11. Your provider may recommend the application of a topical antibiotic ointment if blistering occurs.

Wrinkle Reduction Treatment

  1. Immediately after treatment, there should be mild erythema (redness) and mild edema (swelling) at the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer. The erythema may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment. Some patients note that their skin feels pleasantly warm after treatment.
